Start Smart Basketball is a developmentally appropriate introductory basketball program for children 3-5 years old. Start Smart Basketball teaches children (ages 3 to 5) the basic motor skills necessary to play organized basketball while they work one-on-one and spend quality time with their parents. The program focuses on teaching children, and their parents, skills in dribbling, shooting, passing, catching, and running/agility without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Held once a week for six weeks; each week the exercises become increasingly more difficult as the class progresses and the children show improvement.Snow date* 2/15

Instructors: VT Fish & Wildlife, Let's Go Fishing InstructorsLearn the basic skills of ice fishing like rigging and using a tip-up, using an auger to bore your fishing hole. Also included in the program is information about basic ice safety and how to determine adequate ice thickness for fishing. The best part is that you and your family will have the opportunity to experience ice fishing first hand - equipment is provided. What’s the catch? Children under the age of 15 must bring an adult since you’ll be learning and fishing together.

Proceeds to benefit parks and recreation program scholarships. The event takes place in the Town of Hartford starting and finishing at the Dothan Brook Elementary School. Any participant seven years old or older may stay and use the ski area after lessons, as long as they have demonstrated the ability to ride all three lifts without assistance. All others will need to be supervised with an adult.The Quechee Ski Area has snowmaking capabilities, so the hill should remain open, but as usual, parents may use their discretion about inclement weather. Start Smart Basketball is a developmentally appropriate introductory basketball program for children 3-5 years old. Start Smart Basketball teaches children (ages 3 to 5) the basic motor skills necessary to play organized basketball while they work one-on-one and spend quality time with their parents. The program focuses on teaching children, and their parents, skills in dribbling, shooting, passing, catching, and running/agility without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Held once a week for six weeks; each week the exercises become increasingly more difficult as the class progresses and the children show improvement.Snow date* 2/15
