Parents, are you interested in supporting your child to contribute to their community and develop creative collaboration and leadership skills?

Creative Lives, Inc., a local education non-profit, is pleased to join with Hartford Rec, Vermont Afterschool and the Morgan Family Foundation to offer a  Middle School YOUTH COUNCIL. Members of the Council will have the opportunity to help their peers develop projects (and to develop their own projects) and submit them to the Youth Council for grant-funding. Projects will be designed to support positive youth development in Hartford.
There is no cost to participate! Instead, students will be paid for their service.

Council members will:

  • Share the opportunity to create a project and apply for funding with their fellow students

  • Learn about opportunities and challenges in their community that impact youth

  • Develop skills in leadership, participatory budgeting, and idea development

  • Learn essential skills for wise decision making and collaboration from Ellen Tadd’s Framework for Wise Education®

  • Solicit student proposals (again, Council members may submit their own proposals as well)

  • Award grant funds to student-led initiatives

  • Drive positive change in their community.

We value youth participation and the time commitment involved for this process and will provide stipends to participating youth. Youth council members will receive $25 for every meeting they attend and will be paid every two weeks for their time.

Sponsored by Creative Lives and the Hartford Rec. Department

Meeting commitment and stipend. Each meeting will last between 60-90 minutes.
