  • COVID-19 and Hartford Parks & Recreation
    Updated: 4/1/2020

Hartford Parks & Recreation is taking a number of precautionary measures to protect our patrons, volunteers, and staff, as we continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation.  We are working with local officials and the State of Vermont Health Officer for the Town of Hartford to make sure we are making the correct decisions regarding future programming and our facilities.  We are prepared to follow all directions provided by Vermont Health Officials and the CDC to help mitigate the spread of any virus.

    • Our public park locations will officially open April 1st. Many park access areas and trails remain open to the public.  High risk areas such as playgrounds, benches, picnic tables, enclosed ball fields, and enclosed playing courts will remain closed until further notice.
    • Do not use parks, trails, or open playing courts if you are exhibiting symptoms.
    • Follow CDC’s guidance on personal hygiene prior to visiting parks or trails.
    • Be prepared for limited access to public restrooms or water fountains.
    • Share the trail and warn other trail users of your presence and as you pass.
    • Observe CDC’s minimum recommended social distancing of 6’ from other persons at all times.
Spring Sports and Spring activities are postponed until April 15th.

We will notify patrons as quickly as possible and will maintain communication as circumstances change related to Hartford Parks & Recreation programs, community activities and private permitted functions.

We encourage the community to get outside and recreate.  Fresh air is good and recreating with family  (by following all CDC social distancing guidelines and reviewing the chart below) will keep you active, healthy and your mind free and clear.

As weather permits, we will begin opening gated facilities and allowing vehicular access.  Many parks in our community have walkable access and open parking.  Though parks are closed for programming and maintenance operations, we ask you to please stay off surfaces that are wet and muddy as some forms of recreation play will damage the turf and grounds.  Additionally, please carry in and carry out any trash during your leisurely use.

IMPORTANT:  High risk areas such as playgrounds, benches, picnic tables, enclosed ball fields, and enclosed playing courts will remain closed until further notice.

Refunds will be issued for canceled programs. For questions regarding refunds, please contact the rec office at 802-295-5036 or email recreation@hartford-vt.org.
